Honda scooters and motorbikes are a familiar sight across Walsall, from commuter scooters parked outside flats in Bloxwich and Darlaston to bigger bikes kept in garages in Aldridge and Brownhills. They're light, they're easy to move, and they don't have to be started to be taken. That makes a bike a very different security problem from a car, and it's why we treat bike tracking as its own job rather than an afterthought.
The picture in Walsall
Walsall stands out in the official figures. In the year to March 2026, 2,655 vehicle offences were recorded in the Walsall council area, up 7.5% on the year before. That was the only rise among the West Midlands and Staffordshire areas we cover; the others all fell (ONS police force area data tables, year ending March 2026). "Vehicle offences" here means thefts of and from vehicles, plus interference.
Bikes are a live issue across the force area too. In August 2026 alone, West Midlands Police recorded 79 powered two-wheeler thefts, the fourth-highest of any force in the UK (Bennetts BikeSocial, using Police National Computer data compiled by Retainagroup).
Why bikes need a different approach
A car thief usually needs the car to start. A scooter or motorbike can simply be lifted or wheeled away, so a system that only stops the engine isn't the whole answer. For two wheels, three things matter most:
- Knowing the moment it moves, whether it's ridden, pushed or lifted
- A deterrent at the bike, so anyone tampering with it draws attention
- Someone watching around the clock, so recovery starts quickly if it's taken
The systems below cover those in different ways, and your insurer's policy wording often decides between them.
What we'd fit to a Honda
Meta Trak DEFCOM TRAK
DEFCOM TRAK combines Category S7 motorcycle tracking with a Category 2-1 alarm. You arm it with the remote when you park up; if the bike is disturbed, the alarm sounds, and if it's taken, the monitoring team tracks it and works with the police. It's monitored 24/7 with dedicated stolen-motorcycle support, and Meta Trak makes it for motorcycles and scooters. The subscription is confirmed with your quote.
Datatool Stealth S5
The Datatool Stealth S5 is a Thatcham S5 motorcycle tracker from Scorpion's motorcycle brand. It recognises the rider automatically by tag, uses GPS, Galileo and GLONASS, and is monitored 24/7 by Vehicle Recovery Specialists, who coordinate with the police. Its privacy mode can only be lifted by Datatool during a theft, and coverage extends into Europe. Datatool's published subscription runs from £119 a year, or £549 for life.
Pandora Smart Moto Evo
The Pandora Smart Moto Evo is an alarm, immobiliser and GPS tracker in one, authorised by a Bluetooth tag, the app or the original fob, with an anti-hijack shutdown. It's self-monitored: alerts come to you in the app, and there's no monitoring centre. GSM airtime is free for the first six months, then £70 for six months or £125 for twelve. Pandora lists it as Category 1, and we confirm the certificate for your bike before quoting.
A simpler alarm for scooters
If you only want a deterrent, the Datatool Evo Compact is a compact 12V alarm for motorcycles and scooters with three movement-sensitivity levels. Datatool doesn't state a Thatcham category for it, so it won't meet an insurer's tracker requirement on its own.
S5 or S7 on a bike?
| DEFCOM TRAK | Stealth S5 | Smart Moto Evo | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tracking | Category S7 | Thatcham S5 | GPS, self-monitored |
| Rider tag | No (alarm remote) | Yes, automatic | Bluetooth tag |
| Alarm | Category 2-1 | No | Yes |
| Monitoring centre | 24/7 | 24/7 | No |
An S7 tracker is monitored around the clock. S5 adds rider recognition, so the monitoring team is alerted if the bike moves without the tag. Our guide to choosing between S5 and S7 explains how to read your policy wording.
Questions Walsall riders ask
My insurer wants a tracker. Which one counts?
The policy wording decides. If it asks for S5, the Stealth S5 meets that category; if it asks for S7, DEFCOM TRAK's tracking is Category S7. The Smart Moto Evo has no monitoring centre, so check it against the wording first. Send it to us and we'll match the system to it.
Can you fit it where the bike is kept?
Yes. We come to the bike at your home, as long as we can get to it.
Will it fit my scooter as well as a bigger bike?
Meta Trak makes DEFCOM TRAK for motorcycles and scooters, and the Evo Compact is built for both. We confirm every system against your exact model and year before quoting.
